US Armed Forces Conducts Lethal Strike in Pacific, Resulting in Four Fatalities

According to a senior military official, the US military executed a fatal strike on a boat in the Pacific Ocean, resulting in the deaths of four people.

“Joint Task Force Southern Spear conducted a deadly attack on a craft operated by a terrorist group in open sea. Intelligence confirmed the vessel was traveling along a known narco-trafficking route and was involved in illicit drug transport. A total of four male narco-terrorists were killed, and no American forces were injured.”

Context and Prior Actions

The statement comes a day after a declaration regarding a naval blockade of all targeted oil tankers to and from Venezuela. That statement on online platforms, the American leader accused Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund narcotics smuggling and criminal activities, vowing to escalate the military buildup.

Just on the previous day, the Pentagon said it had conducted strikes on three boats suspected of trafficking drugs in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Since 2 September, over 20 strikes have killed at least 99 individuals, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.

Administration Defends Tactics Amidst Scrutiny

The administration has faced growing pressure to release video of a September 2nd vessel attack. However, the defense secretary have refused to do so. The administration has defended its campaign as a success, saying it has stopped drugs from reaching US shores and has pushed back on concerns that it is stretching the limits of legal military action.

While the administration has stated the operation is about halting drugs destined for the US, comments from a senior aide seemed to suggest a wider geopolitical aim. In a recently published interview, the senior advisor remarked the leader “aims to keep on destroying vessels until Venezuela's president cries uncle.”

This indicates the series of strikes may be linked to a strategy to remove Venezuela's current leadership.
