President Trump stated on Sunday that he has asked the relatives of a Guard member tragically killed last week to visit the presidential home.
He mentioned that he spoke to her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a shooting on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her comrade, Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in grave state.
Gatherings across the state have been held in their remembrance.
The commander-in-chief said he’s discussed a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both members of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” Trump told journalists. “And likewise with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Mourners came together over the past few days at Webster County high school in West Virginia to honor Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been fulfilling duties with the state guard as part of Trump’s national effort to aid policing efforts in the capital.
“Sarah was the individual that instructors desired. She behaved with inner fortitude, a bright grin and a positive energy that inspired those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s previous school, told the press. “She was kind, caring and always ready to assist people.”
Memorial arrangements for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.
Law enforcement have accused a 29-year-old Afghan national with one count of murder and two counts of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The incident caused the Trump administration to pause asylum processing and temporarily stop granting entry permits to holders of travel documents.
The airman, a resident of the city, enlisted in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, according to the Associated Press.
He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia leader the governor stated on television.
