The network's Leading Fresh Series of This Year Gets a Major Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.

During the fall season, Adult Swim welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, shortly thereafter, the channel unveiled a fresh animated series with a strikingly different vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. At a time often defined by cynicism, this show's sincerity struck a chord and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

On December 18th, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for a further two seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The show follows three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and shared it with others," said Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."

Executive Acclaim

The official statement also included laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who found the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky style.

"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about following this lovable family go about their simple existence.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to help comedy break out of its prevailing sarcastic tone. He traced this trend to a broader media landscape.

“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

The Path Forward

Now, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa could potentially help usher in that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences a little more time to bask in the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The entire series is currently streaming on HBO Max.
