The most recent Far Cry game that players dived into was Far Cry 6, that featured Giancarlo Esposito in the role of the villain, Antón, and was released during October 6, 2021. As a series, it is famous for delighting in chaos and madness with similar glee, all while weaving gripping, politically driven stories. It’s no surprise that the network’s decision for a Far Cry limited-run show pulled in two visionaries whose projects have embodied all of those qualities.
Based on Ubisoft's successful video game property, the short-run anthology series will be available on Hulu and will be created by FX Productions. The series will also parallel the video games' structure by having a fresh location and group of personalities in each season.
Rob Mac, mastermind of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Noah Hawley, the visionary behind FX's Alien: Earth and Fargo, will serve as executive producers on the series through their labels, More Better Productions for Mac, and 26 Keys for Hawley. They will be partnered by Emilia Serrano for 26 Keys, Nick Frenkel for 3 Arts, Jackie Cohn for More Better Productions, John Campisi, Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, and Austin Dill for Ubisoft Film & Television.
The network enjoyed excellent partnerships with Rob Mac and Noah Hawley for a total six series and 32 seasons of television, and we couldn’t be more excited that they are teaming up for Far Cry,” stated Nick Grad, President, FX Entertainment, in a statement. “I have no doubt that they will tell this story in a way that is innovative, gripping, and incredibly entertaining. We also want to acknowledge our collaborators at Ubisoft for trusting us with this cherished property.”
Mac will also feature in the show, but currently, we are unsure of what part that could be. Hawley's Alien: Earth was recently approved for another season, with FX and Disney agreeing to a new overall deal with the producer.
“Getting to work together with Noah Hawley is a goal achieved,” remarked Rob Mac. “Ubisoft has been exceptionally generous, entrusting us with one of the most famous video-game worlds ever created. And along the way, my FX partners always encourages me with their steady belief and support.”
“What appeals to me about the Far Cry game franchise is that it’s an standalone show. Every title is a take of a concept, the same way each season of Fargo is a adaptation on a story,” explained Hawley. “To develop a big action show that can change from one instalment to the next, while always exploring the core of society through this intricate and chaotic perspective, is a dream come true. I’m excited to work with Rob and present our common bold, ambitious style to the screen.”
A release window for when we can expect the new Far Cry show has not yet been revealed. The series will be available on Hulu in the United States and on Disney Plus internationally.
