Prosecutors report that a former doctor now faces charges for carrying out assaults involving 38 individuals who were under his care.

Details of the Serious Charges

Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham has been charged with dozens of acts of sexual assault – some of which involve some against minors under the age of thirteen – spanning the period from 2017 to 2021.

A senior CPS official stated, “Our prosecutors have worked at length to assist a detailed and complex police inquiry, carefully reviewing the available evidence to determine that there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”

Scope of the Investigation

The charges follow what investigators described as a “complex investigation” into reported assaults at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.

Spencer will appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on January 20th.

The charging documents said the forty-five sexual offences comprise:

  • 15 counts of assault.

  • 9 counts of assault on a minor under thirteen.
  • Three counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
